I use Spy Sweeper and I have a relatively old laptop. Does Spy Sweeper slow down a system? What commercial antispyware products do not take up many system resources?

Oh this may be important my laptop only has 256 mb RAM

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I support this theory and all others from Einstein (even his theory on a static universe)
Not really!

256k is small, small. Try these FREE ones, no point paying unless you want to.
Spybot S&D. Make sure to run updates AND immunize against every item. Do not run TeaTimer with any firewall or active anti-virus.
Spyware Blaster. Make sure to run updates.
Both use practically no space. They make a list in the registry of bad items to block permanently.

For additional scans, download Lavasoft Ad-Aware. Make sure to run updates before the scan.
Download Emsisoft A-Squared. Make sure to run updates before scans.

Instructions for all of these are on this site.

I don't know whether SpySweeper is memory intensive. Can you see it through the Task Manager?
