Hello

I have a felling that my computer is running slower as usual in the last few days. I did some anti- virus, malware, adware... scans. Some trojans were found and mostly executed. BitDefender Online Scanner found 2 Trojan.Munk.XA entries. One of them failed to be deleted.

C:\WINDOWS\java\explorer.exe
Infected with: Trojan.Munk.XA

C:\WINDOWS\java\explorer.exe
Disinfection failed

C:\WINDOWS\java\explorer.exe
Delete failed

C:\WINDOWS\system32\directx.exe
Infected with: Trojan.Munk.XA

C:\WINDOWS\system32\directx.exe
Disinfection failed

C:\WINDOWS\system32\directx.exe
Deleted

Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

* Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

* Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

---------------------------

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
do not use the scan yet

--------------------------

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Windows Safe Mode, restart your computer and, just before Windows starts to load, tap the F8 key a few times.
Choose Safe Mode from the menu that will appear and press Enter.

---------------------------

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present (some entries won't be present anymore):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O23 - Service: DirectX Service (DirectHylh) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\directx.exe (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

--------------------------

Delete next file:

C:\WINDOWS\java\explorer.exe

Do NOT delete explorer.exe present in your Windows-folder!!!
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe, Click Start and Allow to run the express scan.
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • It could be possible it displays a popup to buy it in between, to buy or 50% discount. Just close that popup again.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
  • Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: Posted Image
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    Posted Image
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
-------------------------
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Post the following logs in your next reply:

* Log from DrWeb CureIt
* Log from SDFix
* New HijackThislog

Hi,

Your HijackThislog looks clean again.
Do you still have Tencent QQ installed? In case you do, I recommend you uninstall it.

Just some entries we have to delete from the registry. To do this, Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"C:\\Program Files\\QQLive\\QQLive.exe"=-
"C:\\Program Files\\Tencent\\QQLive\\QQLive.exe"=-
"C:\\WINDOWS\\java\\explorer.exe"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\DomainProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"C:\\WINDOWS\\java\\explorer.exe"=-

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Update your Avast and let it perform a full scan to get rid of the leftovers.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Hello

I uninstalled QQlive which is a program for watching Tv via P2P network but I never use it anyway.

Then I ran fix.reg file and did Avast scan. Avast didn't find any malicious entrie, I think.
In a 'Results of last scan' window that appeared after scanning there was a lot of entries from SpyBot and AdAware folders that were unable to be scanned because the archive is password protected. Is this OK?

There were also 3 entries that were also unable to be scanned because CAB archive is corrupted. Two of them are in my personal Documents and settings folder - both of them named googlenav.dll. The other one is in Program files\Adobe Acrobat 7.0 folder and is named AcroRd32.dll What is with them?

Thanks a lot again for helping me.

Best regards
Tayy

Hi,

Tencent QQ software is by most scanners flagged as Adware. That's why I don't recommend it. And since you didn't use it anyway, it was better to uninstall.

Yes, don't worry about the passwordprotected files in Spybot and Adaware folder, this is normal.
Also don't worry about the other ones, googlenav.dll is a part of the googletoolbar and AcroRd32.dll is a part of your Acrobat reader.

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
