Last week I got a pop up and clicked on the cancel button and now have some problems with my operating system and IE. The operating system runs and severely decreased speed. It takes around 15 minutes to fully boot. When I run IE I have decreased speed as well as unwanted pages that open independently. I talked to an IT person who told me that I sound like I was hijacked. Since this I have installed the latest version of Norton virus software. I ran that and detected several viruses. I am still having the problems. I have done everything in the tutorial and hope you can tell me what to delete from my log. Thanks

Hello,

Please uninstall WinAntiVirus Pro 2007 from software > add/remove programs.

* Please download VundoFix.exe to your C:\.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • In case it says that nothing was found, Right click the list box (white box) in the main VundoFix window.
  • Select Add More Files? from the menu that comes up. This will open a new VundoFix window.
  • In the Window: copy and paste next in the first field: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\hidnim.dll
  • Copy and paste next in the second field: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tmpE9.tmp.dll
  • Click the Add Files button.
  • Click the "Close Window" button.
  • Click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

After reboot,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present (some entries won't be present anymore):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {d3644ccc-2fa8-47e9-beea-0b220a2941c4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hidnim.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D38439EC-4A7F-42b4-90C2-D810D7778FDD} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmpE9.tmp.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mav_startupmon] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\mav_startupmon.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundService] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\hgfday.dll",setvm
O20 - Winlogon Notify: hidnim - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\hidnim.dll

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Delete next folders and file if still present:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007 <== folder
C:\Program Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007 <== folder
C:\WINDOWS\hgfday.dll

Post a new hijackthislog and the contents of C:\vundofix.txt in your next reply.

That *may be caused because of Norton/Symantec. It is a known issue that Symantec causes a serious system slowdown on some computers.
