hi my name is mark and i have windows xp service pack 2. ever since i put a new hard drive. in all my usb ports seem to run really slow. nothing compared to what it use to be. transferring photo files from a card reader and printing speeds slowed way down.and when i use more than one printer it comes to a halt. do i need new drivers installed ?
thank you mark if so how do i do that. i read that with the service pack 2 the drivers slow way down . i use this pc for work. if anybody can help me i would be forever grateful.

Did you reinstall Windows when you put the new hard drive in? If so, you may not have loaded the drivers that are responsible for these functions. Check the website of the computer manufacturer for the drivers. The USB, in particular, is controlled by the motherboard/chipset drivers.

Did you try updating the motherboard/chipset drivers as usama suggested?

Please go to http://www.driveragent.com/ and run the free scan (don't pay for anything!!!). It'll require that you install a few things - let it. Then copy/paste the results here and we'll help to locate the drivers you'll need.

Here's a link to the drivers for your mobo: http://support.asus.com/download/download....=P5GDC%20Deluxe
But don't start replacing stuff until you've posted the results from your DriverAgent scan.

Also, here's the link for the video drivers (I prefer the one's from nVidia) for XP: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html
