This is my first post so please be kind to me. My Compaq Presario which has a Lucent Win Modem likes to connect randomly (usually around 3:30 pm) to the internet. My system runs Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and Windows Defender, all up-to-date and run frequently. I also use the Ultimate Trouble Shooter and have a Maxtor One Touch II external hard drive. I have checked all the auto run schedules for each of these programs and all appear to be in order yet my system still starts without being prompted by me. I changed some setting in my dial up properties and it stopped the dial up but became very combersome when trying to connect. Can anyone explain why it might do this? Can anyone offer a solution on how to stop it from dialing up automatically without me starting it. Thanks.

This might be Windows Updates or one of your anti-malware programs trying to automatically update. You should check through all your programs to see if any are set to automatically update at 3.30pm everyday.

If you rule out all the legitimate reasons for the system trying to access the web - then that leaves you with the illegitimate reasons (virus/spyware).
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
