Every timer I boot, I get a pop up for "windows Installer" stating that "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert ......."

Unfotunately, the feature is up and running very well. The only way I can stop it is with Windows Task Manager.

Any idea on how to prevent this wrong msg box from coming up?

As near as I can remember, it started when CHKDSK created recovery files and when I clicked on a .000 file, this is what I got. The CHKDSK files are gone and I have no known disk/file errrors. It always picks the same applicatioin to be reloaded.
thanks for the help

Before you ask:
Yes i have let it do it's thing. HOWEVER, what program is being requested has nothing to do with the problem. I have loaded the program several times and it comes right back. (I also do not use it.) It's right there on every boot and I end up killing it with Windows Task Master on every shut down/restart as the system can not terminate it normally. Prior to this happening, CHKDSK created recover files and every time I would click on one of its *.000 files, I would get an install msg-but for a different program. NOT clicking on a *.000 file does not solve the problem as it ALWAYS comes up after any boot - with SOME program.

the question is h ow do i clear the windows installer indicator that it should run wiht <?> progtram?

It depends on what's calling it to start - and that's a daunting task to isolate it.

I'd check your registry in the different startup keys to see if it's located there. I suspect that it's a "Run Once" entry that's stuck in a loop (but am not certain).

In the registry editior (regedit.exe) go to this path in both the HKLM and HKCU keys: Software/Micrsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/RunOnce and see if it's there.
