Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.
It certainly looks like Vundo to me. Let's see what we can do about it.

First you need to move Combofix.exe to your desktop. Once it's there, proceed with this next step.

Click Start -> Run
Copy the command below and paste it into the Run box and click Ok.

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /v gebcd ssttr pmnkjgf

When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.
Also post a new hijackthis log.
Posted Image If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

It's being stubborn.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of the lines listed below. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

I know this next step may seem repetitive for you, but let's run through it anyways and see what it gets us.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt even if Vundofix found no infected files.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Also post a new hijackthis log.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebcd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnkjgf.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avengerís actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

Before posting a new hijackthis log, rename hijackthis.exe to hjt.exe

Also please post a new log from Combofix.

It's looking good. I'd like to see one more new log from Combofix just to be sure that we got all of it.

Are you getting any more popups?

Yeahhh! I hope its all gone...I went to Start, Run and put in this like you told me yesterday
("%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /v gebcd ssttr pmnkjgf ) and got the following results from Combofix: Another one is included below without the directions you gave me yesterday (since I wasn't sure if I should just run it by itself or use the old directions)! Thanks so much! Oh and I haven't gotten any pop ups since this morning. (oh one more thing when I restart my computer I don't get a logon screen-I am running xp) windows just comes up...I am wondering how to get that logon screen to work...maybe something you can help me with...? if not thats okay, I know your very busy! Thanks

with the directions from yesterday:

There's still a couple of files that I'm suspicious of.
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan" box on the top of the page:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\x<amwuvv.sys
    C:\sdat4989.exe

  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.
To get back to your login screen when Windows boots up follow these steps.

Click Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts
Select "Change the way users log on or off"
Place a check next to "Use the Welcome screen" then click Apply options.

That should do the trick.

The first one (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\x<amwuvv.sys) says this:
The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file.

The Second One (C:\sdat4989.exe) says this:Last file scanned at least one scanner reported something about: spoolsvc.exe (MD5: 4fad4dfda7456db5c9bbb933d8efb9e4, size: 67867 bytes), detected by:

Scanner Malware name
AntiVir TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen
ArcaVir Trojan.Poebot.O
Avast X
AVG Antivirus Worm/Agobot.COF
BitDefender Backdoor.SDBot.VanBot.A
ClamAV X
Dr.Web BackDoor.IRC.Sdbot.945
F-Prot Antivirus W32/Trojan.ABAA
F-Secure Anti-Virus Backdoor.Win32.PoeBot.o
Fortinet W32/POEBOT.OA!tr
Kaspersky Anti-Virus Backdoor.Win32.PoeBot.o
NOD32 a variant of Win32/Poebot
Norman Virus Control X
Panda Antivirus W32/RXBot.AB.worm
VirusBuster Packed/MEW
VBA32 BackDoor.IRC.Sdbot.945

I did it again and got this:
Last file scanned at least one scanner reported something about: loli.exe (MD5: 1bef2317c637ee6260f3d3f9eecb91c9, size: 1216512 bytes), detected by:

Fortinet X
Kaspersky Anti-Virus X
NOD32 X
Norman Virus Control X

I hope I did it the right way...I went to the bottom of the page and copied those results...

As far as the windows login goes...I've done what you said and I still can't get the login screen to work. gosh darn it!

Those results are not from the file that you submitted, but rather the last file that was uploaded. It's a big file, so it will take a little while to upload. You can also try this site.

My husband and I are the only ones that use this computer and we only have one user account. :flowers:
The first file you asked me to upload is O bytes.
The second produced this log after the scan was complete (using virus total as the other virus scan scanner server was too busy!): es mayor (translation "is greater") I will try to use the other scanner in a little while again.

UPDATE: HERE IS THE LOG FROM SDAT4989.exe using Jotti's Malware Scan: ??? It uploads it and then I get no report? Am I doing something wrong? it just says ready for scan.
