I thought I'd say hi before I posted a request for help. I shouldn't be doing any more messing with my computer because I screw everything up, lose files, directories, drivers, etc. But, I thought I'd try to learn a little through this website and maybe soften up my reputation as I have created a few messes I couldn't get out of. (I once deleted my recycle bin....couldn't get it back)

I recently discovered my ebay 'official' version of XP is not official at all-- so I want to get a new REAL version before they all disappear. So I thought I'd get a new hard drive which means I have to transfer my stuff off the current one. Not sure how to do that....EXACTLY. So if you know the forum I should post in let me know. (I'll of course be posting it in the appropriate catagory!)

Thanks for all the great info. I'm sure my computer guys will love seeing me next time.

Welcome to BC!
If you get a new hard drive, you can rather easily keep the old drive and use it for data storage. The Hardware forum regulars can give you more precise instructions.
Welcome to BC!
