I have deleted probably around 8 viruses this week. My computer never really had a problem before. I have Avast Antivirus and Spybot search and destroy along with Lavasoft Adaware. Spybot kept finding Smitfraud so I did a search on it. I am getting a ton of popups just like it is described. I downloaded the Smitfruad removal tool, booted in safe mode and ran it. When it got to the part of cleaning the registry it said it could not access the registry. I rebooted and tried again with the same result. I don't know what to try now. I think I may have more than just Smitfraud?..
