I have been apporached by a collegue who has numerous files created on an Olivetti word processor. Unfortuantely they don't have their WP anymore. They have asked me if there is any way of retreiving these files. Luckly the files are on a floppy disk which is read by my PC.

What I am looking for is a (free if possible) program that will convert the Olivetti word processed files into a viewable source e.g txt, RTF etc.

The files created have an extension of *.IWP I have found a utility that can convert them, however it's not free. Just wondering if you lot have any ideas?

Can of 'Jolt' cola to the first positive answer back!!

Hi FireKracker.
IBM says that an .IWP (wang text file used on the olivetti) can be viewed as an html file in windows.
If this is true, you only need a html enabled browser. Try viewing it in IE. If it doesn't open, change the file extension to html on one of the files and try again. You can always change it back.

Cheers for the tip HitSquad, strangely enough, I also read that but didn't actually get around to trying that at work, will give it a go 2morrow!

Also our Internet is monitored by an external organisation and by typing in "Wang Text" I receive a standard message reminding me that "I am trying to access sexually explicit content" LMAO, best look for a bypass proxy service! Alternatively I'll have a look on my old dialup machine!

Seems like a strange file format - almost like a compressed image file.

See if these help any

Some WP programs offer free conversions. I know my copy of Microsoft Works does. Have you tried checking there?
