Hi!

My name is Mike, and I'm responsible for maintaining ten Windows PCs for a local business. I've found it helpful to check out bleepingcomputer.com (thanks!) and have an RSS feed enabled. This feed often shows a post with an interesting title, but when I click on it, my browser takes me to a page with this message:

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

The error returned was:

You do not have permission to view this topic

Is there a way I can tell in advance that this type of post is one I can't view, and thus save myself the the time to view the error message?

Thanks!

Hi Mike,
and  to Bleepingcomputer

It's possible that you were not "logged" into the site at the time.
Thus, you would not be able to read the e-mail notice of that particular topic or the topics themselves either.

Were you able to log-in thereafter and read the topics that you'd selected notification for?

regards,
~Koan

Hi Mike... to BC
Unfortunately the RSS feeds deliver some content that is only available to HijackThis Team members and BC staff.
I personally do not know a way to filter them....anyone???

Hi, Koan and raw! Thanks for responding. Yep, Koan, I'm logged in automatically upon visiting the forums. And raw, maybe you've nailed it. I'll check back to see if anyone adds a solution. If none appears, however, it's not a big deal; I can continue to click 'n' close. :^)

Well, we'd sure like to diagnose the problem for you.

I don't have that particular problem myself, but maybe "raw" did present a reason.

There are items that not all of us are privileged to see. (Staff or Admin items.)

Keep us apprised of what you decern regarding this problem for you.

Regards,
~Koan

Hi, Koan!

Sorry I took so long to respond. Been up to [here] in alligators.

I'm guessing there's little that can be done on the user end. My newsreader, NetNewsWire v1.0.8 for Macintosh (I maintain PCs for work, but don't care to own one) is subscribed to this:

//MOD edit: Links removed for security reasons.//

This is all there is to work with on my end. So I guess if it's in the feed, I'm gonna get it. As I said, it's nothing I can't live with.

Thanks again for chiming in! You, too, "mad cow" person (I can't see your user name from this screen)!

Thanks tmneast for getting back to us.

Our Admin will be checking that out. And hopefully clear it up for us all.
