What make is the flash drive? Yes it makes a difference. The Lexar Secured ones require a special driver for ALL computers. But, more common ones are just plug in and work.

Yes, that is true. But I dont know why the other computer that I am using does not recognize this memory stick.I am not sure if it doesnot recognize the hardware (the flash drive itself)or a type/brand of mem stick.I just couldnt figure this out.How can I work around this issue.

If the flash drive doesn't work on 2 computers - then it's likely that there's a problem with the flash drive. Try another flash drive to see if it's detected on the same systems. If it is, then it's the flash drive that's your problem - then either return or replace it (quite a few of the manufacturers have liberal guarantee's)

FWIW - I just returned a Corsair flash drive that I broke (bent the drive while it was inserted in a USB port) - and they replaced it for free.

I observe that when i plug the memory stick into usb port, I get a message "hardware not found" at the right cornerof the task bar where the icon for flash drive sits.Instead of gettting "unplug or eject hardware " while rolling over this icon I get this message as if the flash drive is not detected. And even you browse into My computer , removable disk is not there.

I would say nothing is wrong with the memory stick because I have been using it in other computers except in this one.

If the stick works on other computers, then it's gotta be this computer that's messed up.

Try checking Device Manager (Start...Run...type "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes and press Enter) to see if the USB drivers are installed.

Also, try checking Event Viewer (Start...Run...type "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes and press Enter) to see there are any significant errors listed under the System category.

Finally, try checking Disk Manager (Start...Run...type "diskmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter) to see if the drive is recognized there.

Try this link for more info on the Event Viewer: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/40108/how-to-use-event-viewer/

It was written for BSOD's rather than this situation, but it'll help you get a start at looking in the errors for the exact message.

Another technique is to let the error occur again, then check the Event Viewer for errors that happened at the time you inserted the stick and got the error message.
