Pop-ups Showing Up Every 5 Seconds

Hi,
I just re-installed my windows xp and i have this messenger service, that pops up every 10s saying that my computer has some critical errors and i need to go to a certain site to download a certain cleaner, can you help me please.

Try clicking on the start menu, then run. In the run menu type in services.msc. That'll bring up a services (local) screen. You can scroll down until you see messenger service. Double click on that, and when you see startup type, change it to disabled, and then press stop. You can then press ok, and you should be fine from that point.

Do the pop up alerts look like the one in the example shown here? If so, follow the instructions to "Disable Windows Messenger Service". The Messenger service is a network-based system notification service service that transmits net send messages and messages that are sent through the Alerter service between client computers and servers. It should not be confused with Windows Messenger which is a proprietary instant messaging client included in Windows XP, 2000 and 2003 Server.
