Try running the Disk Cleanup tool (Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools). It's possible that you have a ton of Temporary Internet files that need to be deleted. It's also possible that there is a corrupt file within the Temporary Internet files that's causing the freeze up. To prevent future buildup of Temporary Internet files, go into Tools, Internet Options in Internet Exploer. Go to the Advanced tab and scroll near the bottom of the options. Put a check mark in the "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" box.
