Recently I went to go visit my parents and they asked me to have a look at my little sisters computer, since they were having problems connecting to the internet. I spent a short while resetting the router and checking the physical connections, but to no avail. However whilst checking IE and mozilla I noticed both were loading the page virushelpzone.exe. Having experienced homepage hijacks before and having similar connectivity issues I decided to check virushelpzone.exe on google. I was not suprised to see that it was linked to a virus. After speaking with my sister I found that she may have been dowloading small applications for the game the SIMS, some of which may not be credited to the game creators. I asked if she had been scanning the zip files for viruses and she hadn't. Im not sure if this could have infected her computer, but I thought it worth mentioning. Also I would like to note that due to the fact I was unable to connect to the internet, I was not able to carry out all the precursory steps that were advised. I did however carry out a virus check with norton and remove all temporary files etc. This is all the information I have at hand currently. Thankyou for your time.

Please download SDFix and save it to the Desktop.

Right click the SDFix.zip folder
Select: Extract All to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop.
We will use this program later.

~~~~
Next, download LSP-Fix:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lspfix.php
Save it to a location you can easily find later, if necessary.
Next, click on Start > Control Panel, and double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Uninstall webHancer from the list of programs
MyWebSearch is also installed on the copmuter. It is not technically malware, but may bring malware with it. There are safer alternatives available such as the Google toolbar. Most security experts recommend its removal.
If you opt to remove the program:
On the list of Currently Installed Programs, look for, and uninstall the following by selecting the entry and clicking on Remove:
MyWebSearch
Now, if found, delete the following folders and files (bold):
Folders:
C:\Program Files\webHancer
C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch
Files:
C:\Windows\Webhdll.dll
C:\Windows\Whagent.inf
C:\Windows\whInstaller.exe
C:\Windows\whInstaller.ini
Restart the computer.
~~~~
If you can not connect to the Internet after removing webHancer, please run the LSP-Fix program download earlier, and click on the Finish button.

Restart the computer, and you should be able to get back on.

~~~~
Next, run HijackThis, Scan
Check box for the following entries (some may not be present):
When the PC restarts the SDFix will run again and complete the removal process
It then displays Finished
Press any key to end the script and load the Desktop icons.
Once the Desktop icons load, the SDFix report opens on screen and saves itself in the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
~~~~
Now, download ComboFix (by sUBs) from one of the following links:
NOTE: In the event you already have ComboFix, this is a new version!!

http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Save it to the Desktop.
Double-click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
