Hello TRIGGY,

Before you do anything else, you need to put HijackThis into its own folder, not on the desktop or a temp folder. It makes backups and they need to be kept all in one place. If the Hijackthis folder is on the desktop or temp folder the backups will get lost.

Here is how you make a Hijackthis folder:

Click My Computer, then
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it (after you have done the following).

Download FxAgentB.exe from http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...moval.tool.html
and save it to your desktop.
Complete instructions are at that site.
After downloading, double-click the FxAgentB file to run it and the program will scan your entire hard drive - this may take a while. When it is done, it will generate a log file called FxAgentB.log - save that information as you will need to paste it here later. Reboot when done.

Next download CWShredder http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshr...r_download.html and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'.
If you already have CWShredder, click 'Check for update' and make sure you are running version 2.1.
Reboot when done.

Then download Ad-Aware SE http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Download Spybot 1.3 http://www.safer-networking.org/ , update it and run it. Let it removal all malware it finds.

Tutorials for Spybot 1.3 and Adaware SE are here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...showtutorial=48
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...showtutorial=43

Again, make sure you have Hijackthis in its own folder, not in a temp file or on the desktop.

Reboot when done, rescan with HijackThis and post a new log here, together with the FxAgentB log.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hello TRIGGY,

You log looks much better. Now there are only a few items left to delete.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recommend you get rid of Spyware Begone, as it is on the list of Rogue/Suspect Ant-Spyware Products at http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

To get rid of it, go to Add/Remove Programs thru Control Panel.
Uninstall the following if they exist:
Spyware Begone

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please boot into safe mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Begone] C:\freescan\freescan.exe -FastScan
O23 - Service: SmartLinkService - Unknown - slserv.exe (file missing)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next, we're going on a file hunt.
Go to My Computer and double-click C.
Go to the Tools menu and select 'Folder Options'.
On the 'View' tab select 'show hidden files and folders' and deselect 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)'.

Find and delete each of the following. If you can't delete an item, right-click it and click properties. Make sure 'read-only' is unchecked.
If you still can't delete something, right-click it and rename it to a random word. Then drag the item to a different location. Try deleting it now. If you still can't, be sure to let me know.

Delete the following files/folders in bold:

C:\freescan\ <===folder

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let empty the temp files:

When in Safe Mode, open notepad and paste in the following lines:

del c:\ *.tmp
del %temp%\*.tmp /f
del %windir%\prefetch\*.*
del %windir%\temp\*.* /f
del C:\documents and settings\*\local settings\temp\*.* /f

Save to desktop as 'clean.bat'. Make sure before you save to set 'file types' to all types. ( *.*)

DoubleClick on the icon, and say Yes when prompted.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, reboot and post a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.

Hi- my system now appears to be running quicker and my webpages do not appear to be being hijacked any more. However, I keep receiving a "system" po up massage advising me that I my have an error on my system - and asking me to go to www.errorfixer.com (and other similar sites) to fix it - however this looks as though it may be trying to get me to download other freescan programs again. What shall I do?

Anyway, here is my logfile:

Hello triggy,

I do not see much in your log, but we will try some other things.

*********************************************

Go to start> control panel>Administrative tools>services>scroll down to messinger and double click on it and set it to disabled and stop the service.

*********************************************

Please boot into safe mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Is the following site your homepage or search engine? If not, then Fix it.
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.timecomputers.com

O16 - DPF: {4E62C4DE-627D-4604-B157-4B7D6B09F02E} (AccountTracking Profile Manager Class) - https://moneymanager.egg.com/Pinsafe/accounttracking.cab

*********************************************

Be sure to run Adaware SE with a Full Scan in the Safe Mode.

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

The following explains how to set Ad-aware's settings to perform a "Full Scan."

In Ad-aware click the Gear to go to the Settings area.

The following items should be on a green check, not on a red X.

Under the Scanning button:
Scan within archives
Under Memory & Registry, Check EVERYTHING
In Check Drives & Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected

Under the Advanced button, check ALL under Log detail level.

Under the Tweak button...

Some of these may not be an available option, depending on your version of Ad-aware and your version of Windows.  Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

In Scanning Engine:
Unload recognized processes during scanning
Include info about ignored objects in logfile, if detected in scan
Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
Include used command line parameters in logfile

In Cleaning Engine:
XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion
Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click Proceed to save these settings.  When you would like to perform a "Full Scan," switch the scan mode from SmartScan to Custom.

*********************************************

Please download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

Let it fix whatever it wants to.

*********************************************

I know you may have anti-virus software, but sometimes its definitions are corrupted due to malware. Online scans are the best resort in this case.
Run this pc through the
Trend Micro Housecall Online virus scanner

*********************************************

Hi - I do not seem to be receiving the previous pop up message that I had, and my PC now seems to be up to speed. Here is my Hijack This logfile - would you be able to double check that there are no Gremlins left?

Thanks
