I'm running Windows XP SP1a and lately i have noticed that my computer doesn't totally power off after it has shut down successfully. What i mean is that i can here a noise coming from within a computer's casing. It sounds like power is still running through the system, kind of like a faint whining, even though the system is off. The noise starts when the computer is plugged into a live power source and it stops when i switch off the power from the wall or unplug the computer's cord. I have tested my other hardware and none of them make any noise. The power ON/OFF switch at the back of my computer doesn't help and it's not the fan. I can't remember ever hearing this before so i don't know if i am just beginning to notice it (the system is 3 years old), it's getting louder or if its something i have caused. It's not a huge problem but it is noticeable.
Does anyone know how i can totally power my system down without unplugging it?
