Hello BC,

OK, where to start...

I've gone through the "Read this topic before posting a log." steps and completed all of the tasks listed - in order. But it appears not to have helped with my problem (however, it did remove one or two nasties!)

I'm posting because I'm finding my machine takes ages to go from - Windows Logon Screen to Desktop icons when I bootup. In addition to this I'm finding that after working for a while with a few programs open, I experience lag in the response time to execute simple tasks like Openning a Browser or going into the My Documents Folder but to name a few tasks.

I've also noticed that there are a SEVEN "svchost.exe" files running in the Windows Task Manager - one of which always has a high Memory Usage Value. I'm not sure whether this is the route of my problems, but I hope you - the experts - can point me in the right direction to make my machine zippy again!

Thanks in advance.

Heya

Hijackthis looks clean. Let's see 2 more logs

Go here and download Silent Runners.vbs to a new folder on your Desktop (Clicking the the download link works if you use IE. If you use FireFox, rightclick on the link and choose "Save Link As") and run it. It generates a log too. It takes a minute or two and it will notify you with a popup when your log is ready (make sure you wait for the popups please) Please post the information back in this thread too (you may need to make a couple of posts). If your antivirus program queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious.

Please download F-Secure Blacklight (blbeta.exe) and save to your C:\ drive.
1. Open a command window by going to Start > Run and typing: cmd
2. Copy/paste or type the following in the command window:

C:\blbeta.exe /expert

3. Hit "Enter" to start the program and then close the cmd box.
4. Accept the user agreement and click "Next".
5 Click "Scan".
6. After the scan is complete, click "Next", then "Exit". BlackLight will create a log in C:\ drive named "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan).
7. The log will have a list of all items found. Do not choose to rename any yet! I want to see the log first because legitimate items can also be present.
8. Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Note: If you download Blacklight to your desktop, just double-click to run from there and it will create the "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" on your desktop.

Thanks YoungGun for taking the time to go through my logs! I appreciate it.

Is there anything else I that could be making my machine run slowly? As I initially outlined in my first post, sometimes when I try to open programs I can be sitting waiting for the action to execute for perhaps nearly 30 seconds in some cases. The screen resembles the stage just before clicking and getting the "Not Responding" notification. Any suggestions what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance!

You don't seem to be running too many programs at start-up so that isn't a problem. Are you running a database on your system? That generally slows things down

Have you done a scandisk lately or a defragment on the system partition and on the other partitions?

Hey YounGun,

Firstly no I don't have a database running on this PC. I use it for pretty much everyday use - surfing the net, reading mail etc. I'm pretty good at the routine things like Defragmenting and Disk Cleanup but I've not done a Scandisk in a while so I will give that a try.

You mentioned a Partition on my machine... to my knowledge I don't have one, how would I be able to check (not having consciously set one up on this machine - bought from new).

Thanks!

Ah, I assumed you had one, since most people do. It's best to keep the Operating system on a separate partition from the other data. That's because the operating system partition usually gets most exposure to data loss.

A partition is a logical part of your physical hard-disk. You can split off your hard disk in several logical parts.

Forgive me, YES! I do have a partition. I think that's how the machine came C: & D: drives all in one unit. I've done as you suggested run scandisk on all drive letters. They finished late in the night.

As yet I've not really been on the machine much today (work getting in the way). But I will re-post to let you know how the machine responds.

Thanks again for all your help!
