I have spam blocker utility on my PC. I have tried removing it from the hardware programs, but it is still in my downloads file and on my IE address. It has even made my address bar disappear. Also when I try to get on the internet I get a page that the page cannot be displayed. Before it did this it would only let 1 IE window stay up. If I tried to get on another website link it would close the previous page and open up the new link, but now I only get the the page cannot be displayed. I have to get on the internet through RealPlayer. One more thing I don't know if this helps, but the other problem is when I click on the start menu from my PC I see 2 Internet Explorer links and there was once only 1. Thank u in advance 4 all your help.

Here is my hijack this log file.

Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today.
Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible.
We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Open the file and it will extract the contents (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Now, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again.
Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please include rapport.txt, along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.
Thanks,
Charles

If you are pleased with the service I have offered, you may like to consider making a donation. Posted Image

Hello there,
Firstly, you're welcome for the help
I do not recommend that you have more than one antivirus product installed and running on your computer at a time.
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other antivirus products to create "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection.
In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause false alarms - when the antivirus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't. Also it can cause system performance problems; your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Therefore please go to Add/Remove in the Control Panel and remove either Avast or McAfee.

Please run Panda's ActiveScan.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
A new window will open, click the Check Now button.
Enter your personal details.
Click the big Scan Now button.
It will ask to install various content - please allow this.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan, which may take a while.
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan completes, click the See Report button.
Click Save Report and save the file to your Desktop, so you can post this log in your next reply, along with a new HijackThis log.
Thanks,
Charles

Hi Charles

Here is the info that u asked for.The internet is working now, but I still haven't gotten rid of spamblockerutility from my program files. It is no longer in my toolbar menu. I want it completely gone from my PC. I also still have 2 Internet Explorer's on my start menu page. I know I keep saying the same thing over again, but thanks for your help. U are truly a God Send.

Hello there,
I'm very sorry for the delay, I don't seem to be getting email notification for some reason.
Download Combofix to your Desktop.
Double click combofix.exe
Follow the prompts that are displayed.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt. Post that in your next reply.

Make a list of all the programs installed on your computer:
Open HijackThis
Click the Config... button, then go to the Misc Tools section.
Press Open Uninstall Manager. You'll see a list of programs.
Select Save List... - save it to your Desktop.
The file "uninstall_list.txt" will be created.
Copy and paste the contents of this file to your next reply, along with the ComboFix log.
Thanks,
Charles

also does this virus have anything to do with my Internet Explorer only allowing me to access one window at a time. When I click for a new IE window to open up the previos one will close before the new one will open. This is getting kind of frustrating because I have to go to the previous website again. Other than that the IE has been working OK. And I don't get emails either to let me know that someone has replied to my post.

Hello again,
Open HijackThis.
Click Open the Misc Tools section.
Click Open Uninstall Manager.
Find and Select this item: System Alert Popup.
After you have selected the item click Delete this entry.
Then close HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode and delete the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\popcinfo.dat
Reboot into normal mode and let me know- how are things running now?
Thanks,
Charles

Hi Charles

I'm still having the same problem. I don't have this problem when I log on to Real Player and search the web. It allows me to open up as many windows as I want. But I was able to finally get rid of spamblockerutility in safe mode. I don't know waht ot is that is not allowing me to open up more than one IE page. I thank u again for all your help. :flowers:

Hey danniboo,
To be honest, that isn't really my area of expertise; I think you would get the best help if you posted this problem in our XP forum, found here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/56/windows-xp-home-and-professional/
Let them know you have had your HijackThis log checked, and it isn't a serious security issue. This will allow you to get the best possible help from people who are knowledgable in this subject
Now that you're free from malware, please follow these simple steps to decrease the likelihood of getting re-infected again:

Set your system to not show all files.
Navigate to Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options.
Select the View tab. Under the "Hidden Files and Folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
Check: Hide file extensions for known file types
Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.
Either enable 'Automatic Updates' under Start | Control Panel | Automatic Updates, or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:
AVG AntiSpyware
Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.
Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.
SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.
Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

Thanks and happy computing,
Charles
