Earlier tonight I ran a AVG Anti-Spyware scan, and ended up with a report of an instance of Trojan.KillAV:

I chose to let t AVG quarantine the file, but it had to quarantine the entire MMSSETUP.CAB in order to do so.

My question is pretty simple: Is there anything else I need to do here? Do I need MMSSETUP.CAB otherwise, or is just letting AVG quarantine all of that the best approach?

Nothing else I ran -- Spybot S&D; Norton AV; Stinger -- detected the occurance, in case that helps matters.

Possible update to the above:

Earlier this morning, the power blinked off, causing the computer to restart. As it was starting up, I received an error message that the file "cacu.exe" could not be found in...well, to be honest, I forgot to write down the exact directory, but it was one of the Temp folders under C:\Documents and Settings (I think either
\Owner or \Administrator).

I looked cacu.exe up, and found that it was related to Virtumondo. However, none of the various programs I've ran -- Spybot; Ad-Aware; AVG -- detect anything at all.

After that first instance, the power went off again, and the computer restarted once again. This time, there was no error message.

Hi Duncan Shriek,

The AVG report is a false positive. Acknowledged here:

Note the message from Karl.ewido, a member of the AVG team.

BTW the FP appears to have been corrected. I just updated my own AVG Antispyware and scanned that same .CAB file in my own I386 folder, and it reports it as clean.

You should restore that file from the quarantine to your I386 folder.

The other problem you report would be difficult to track down since it has not recurred. I can tell you that your HJT log does not show any of the typical signs of Vundo.

It does appear your Java may be out of date. Here's how to correct that:

You need to update your Java. Earlier versions have serious security vulnerabilities. Click Start, Control Panel, then double click Add/Remove Programs. When the list is populated look for any and all entries starting with J2SE or JRE with the little Java icon (a coffee cup). Remove them all, one by one. Then open your browser and go to this web page to get the latest version. Scroll dow to the middle of the page where you will find Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6. Click Download which will take you to the secure download page. At the top, select the Accept License Agreement button. Then look to the first block for the J2SE downloads for the Windows Platform. You can choose either the Online or Offline installation version; unless you have several computers you need to upgrade, I suggest the Online version.

Download the file to your desktop, close your browser, and double click the icon to run the installer.

If you have trouble with the Online installation, you can download the big Offline file and install it with your browser closed.

That's about all I see in your log. Let me know if you have any other concerns.
