Hi all

Below is my log... if anyone can suggest what to delete that would be great. Done most checks, AVG etc.. normally PC crashes if I tried to find the virus or if I run video on the PC (built in TV Sony Viao).

Any help would be apreciated.

Regards

PS.... sorry its a big log file... my son said you could help

Hello again,
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Now, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click runThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Post this in your next reply, along with a new HijackThis log.
Thanks,
Charles

Hello again,
Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible.
We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access.

I'm afraid I have some bad news concerning your computer: one or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please move HijackThis to a permanent folder. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a temporary folder. If it is in one of these locations, there is a risk that you may accidentally delete the backups; which may be needed if we fix something we're not meant to.
If you use Windows XP it may be that you just double clicked on the HijackThis.exe file, but this only extracts the file to a temporary folder. If you right click on it and select Extract, you can choose a folder to place it in.

How to make a permanent folder:
Click Start | My Computer | Local Disk (C: ) | Program Files.
In the menu bar at the top, go to File | New | Folder.
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HijackThis". You have now created C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Now get your HijackThis.exe file and place it in your folder.

Go to Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if they exist):

Free KGB Key Logger

Scan again with HijackThis and put a checkmark next to each of the following entries (if present):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stratas] xmconfig.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winlogons.exe] C:\Program Files\Free KGB Key Logger\winlogons.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [stratas] xmconfig.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [stratas] xmconfig.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.friday-ad.co.uk
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.google.co.uk

O16 - DPF: {2D2BEE6E-3C9A-4D58-B9EC-458EDB28D0F6} - http://www.drivecleaner.com/.freeware/inst...leanerstart.cab

Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix checked button.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.

Set your system to show all files.
Navigate to Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options.
Select the View tab. Under the "Hidden Files and Folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Next, please find and delete the following files/folders (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\83BD36C80C.dll <--File
C:\WINDOWS\system32\83BD36C80C.sys <--File
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xmconfig.exe <--File
C:\Program Files\Free KGB Key Logger <--Folder

Reboot into Normal Mode again.

Download Combofix to your Desktop.
Double click combofix.exe
Follow the prompts that are displayed.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt. Post that in your next reply.

Please include the ComboFix log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.
Thanks,
Charles

Hello again,

When re booted, my PC asked me to re set my default browser and my jpeg viewer?

I'd like to know in a little bit more detail what you mean by this, please.

Reboot into Safe Mode and delete the following file:

C:\Documents and Settings\Deni\msdirectx.sys

Let's clean out your temporary internet files:
Close all open windows before we start.
Go to Start | Control Panel | Internet Options | General.
Click the Delete Cookies button.
Next to it, click the Delete Files button.
When prompted, place a check in: 'Delete all offline content', click OK

If you have Firefox installed, we need to clean out these temporary files as well:
Go to Tools | Options.
Click Privacy.
Press the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
Click OK to finish, before closing it.
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.

Now we'll clean other temporary files and your Recycle Bin:
Go to Start | Run | type: cleanmgr | OK.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure 'Temporary Files', 'Temporary Internet Files', and 'Recycle Bin' are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.

Then reboot into Normal Mode again.

Download Bobbi Flekman's RegSearch from
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/regsearch.php

Create a folder for RegSearch on the C: drive called C:\RegSearch. You can do this by going to My Computer then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it RegSearch. Extract all the files from the zip archive into that folder.

Open the RegSearch folder and double-click the icon for RegSearch.exe to launch the program.
Copy / Paste the following line into the top Search Box:

msdirectx

Now hit OK. After completion Notepad will be opened with all the found instances of the string. The resulting file is saved in the same location as RegSearch.exe

Please run Panda's ActiveScan.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
A new window will open, click the Check Now button.
Enter your personal details.
Click the big Scan Now button.
It will ask to install various content - please allow this.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan, which may take a while.
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan completes, click the See Report button.
Click Save Report and save the file to your Desktop, so you can post this log in your next reply. Please include this, along with the answer to my question.
Thanks,
Charles

Hi Charles

My PC crashes before the scans are completed. Panda found 12 viruses and 2 hackers then crashed before I could get any information.

However, I am now getting error 'thread stuck in device driver' after the PC has re booted from a crash.

I have looked at my drivers and none of them have ? marks.

I have tried to run AVG but it crashes before completed.

Any ideas?

Charles

I Uninstalled AVG and subscribed to Spyware Doctor.... fantastic. If found 47 virus/hijackers/dialers/bots etc... killed them all and the PC seems to be running pretty ok.

Not sure if I have cured everything but fingers crossed.

Many thanks

Danny

I see a clean log here, there are no signs of malware or anything that may cause the driver problems you are having. I recommend that you post your question in the following forum as you will recieve better help there. Let them know you have had your HijackThis log checked, and it isn't a serious security issue.
Hardware Forum

Great job! Now that you're free from malware, please follow these simple steps to decrease the likelihood of getting re-infected again:

Set your system to not show all files.
Navigate to Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options.
Select the View tab. Under the "Hidden Files and Folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
Check: Hide file extensions for known file types
Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.
Either enable 'Automatic Updates' under Start | Control Panel | Automatic Updates, or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:
AVG AntiSpyware
Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.
Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.
SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.
Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

Thanks and happy computing,
