Hi all,

I seem to have an issue lately with my laptop. When I startup my PC, sometimes the icons on my desktop are not there. In fact, everything is missing except the background. At times I can wait 5 minutes or so and they will slowly appear. Other times, I have let it sit for long periods of time and the background just stays and the icons and such never appear. Then I have to hold down my power button until the laptop reboots and hope that this time, it will boot properly. I have gone through my startups and unchecked everything that is unneccessary for startup so I don't think that it is just a bunch of programs booting making it slow. It must be something else. I have a clean hijackthis log so it shouldn't be bugs either. I am not very technically inclined so I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Try running chkdisk on the hard drive. Also defragment it.

Thanks. I defragmented and I did the chkdsk. It didn't fix the problem. In fact, I had problems accessing the internet after I did that and I had to restore my PC to a clean restore point I made after I cleaned out all of my spyware and junk. Its like the PC will boot to the background page and then it just sits there for a good 3 or 4 minutes until finally all of the icons and taskbar will slowly appear. Does anyone else have a suggestion? Thanks.

I think this has to do with your icon cache. Try this nr.121 lefthandside

Attention this is a registry tweak!!!! Back up your registry Please look at this guide How to back up your registry prior to doing so
