My friend has bought some microphones sop we can talk over Yahoo Messenger. Too lazy to type :inlove: But she can't get it to work. It all works ok from my end and she can hear me, but I can't hear her.
Yahoo Messenger says her mic is on mute but for some reason she can't unmute it. :flowers: Any ideas you lovely techy people  :trumpet:

Go into the control panel and double click on "Sounds and Audio devices". Check to ensure that there's nothing in there that's muting the mic (checked box, or volume button all the way down).

Also check the following:

The mic is plugged in, plugged in correctly (all the way in), and plugged into the correct place (either motherboard or soundcard and is actually in the microphone hole).

That the drivers (if appliciable) are installed.

That there's not a mute or mic volume in the headset line itself.

That she doesn't have it muted in Yahoo! messanger, and that all the settings within Yahoo! are correct.

Let us know how you make out with this!

How do we know the drivers are in place? What to look for and where? I'm going to email all this to her so it needs to be step by step. Thanks!

Hey donnacarteruk,

why not also invite your friend to become a member here at BleepingComputer. It would be a great benefit for her, and she'll thank you for it too.

Just a suggestion

When she purchased the headset, it *might have* come with drivers. Some do, some don't. If not, then it's "plug and play", which means that all she needs to do is to plug it into her computer and it should work (either it doesn't require drivers or windows will install the drivers automatically).

Have her start by checking her connections as I recommended in my first reply and we'll go from there! Hopefully this will be something simple and fairly painless! :flowers:

BTW, it would be best if she continued on this topic herself so that I can ask more detailed questions if need be, like is windows up to date, what's the make/model of your headset, is it usb or standard male to female (8mm jack?) etc. etc.! However, you're more then welcome to run inbetween too! Everyone is welcome here at BC :trumpet:
