I've been tweaking my computer settings and now all of the words under my desktop icons are shadowed by blue backgrounds....how do I get rid of it?

I found a pic on the web of what my problem looks like http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread16217.html

I've tried going into System properties and unchecked the shadowing etc boxes....nothing's working to get rid of it.

Update: the icons are NOT shadowed....actually I just figured out that a black(or dark blue) background is running BEHIND my desktop background. How the heck can I get rid of it?

I was trying some of the tips on xptweaks(regedit etc)....i did manage to figure out my problem. I unchecked 'lock the desktop' and the boxes were gone.
