Chkdsk Made A Mess Of Things

Ran chkdsk for first time just to tidy things up. Computer's working as I'm on it however, System Restore, which I just cleaned up and set several new "clean" restore points a few days ago, cannot be found. Taskbar is missing as are all user accounts and network connections and of course Start Button. Not sure what else is gone, spent most of my effort getting it up and online so I could look for help. For what it's worth, first thing on screen after it boots is RPCSS starting, also oddly, windows logon sound says it's playing but never does. Anyone else run into this mudhole or have suggestions for restoring System Restore at least?

This is a registry edit. If you're not comfortable with working in the registry, DO NOT ATTEMPT.
Improper changes to the registry could render your computer inoperable.
Remember to backup the registry, before making any changes.

Try this for the Taskbar/Start Menu problem:
