Hello Cubbieblue,

I am SifuMike and I will be helping you.

Please download F-Secure Blacklight (blbeta.exe) and save to your C:\ drive.

1. Open a command window by going to Start > Run and typing: cmd
2. Copy/paste or type the following in the command window:

C:\blbeta.exe /expert

3. Hit "Enter" to start the program and then close the cmd box.
4. Accept the user agreement and click "Next".
5 Click "Scan".
6. After the scan is complete, click "Next", then "Exit". BlackLight will create a log in C:\ drive named "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan).
7. The log will have a list of all items found. Do not choose to rename any yet!
I want to see the log first because legitimate items can also be present...like "wbemtest.exe".
8. Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Note: If you download Blacklight to your desktop, just double-click to run from there and it will create the "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" on your desktop.

Post back with the BlackLight log and a new HijackThis log

Hello Cubbieblue,

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
  • Click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download EGDACCESS Remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Copy the part in bold below into notepad and save it as aftermath.bfu
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU) and set Filetype to "All files"

RegDeleteKey HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\cnaotothch
RegDelValue HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run|cnaotothch
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\cnaotothch_navps.dat
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\cnaotothch_nav.dat
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\cnaotothch.dat
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\cnaotothch.exe
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\cnaotothch_m2s.xml
FileDelete %WINDIR%\cnaotothch.exe-*.pf

Then, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
  • Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
  • Behind the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon Posted Image and select EGDACCESS.bfu
  • Press Execute and let it do it's job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
  • Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
  • Behind the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon Posted Image again and this time select aftermath.bfu
  • Press Execute and let it do it's job.
  • Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
  • Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hello Cubbieblue,

SpywareBot is on the list of "Rogue/Suspect" antispyware products http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
so I suggest you remove it.

Click on start, then control panel, and then double-click on add/remove programs.
From within add/remove program uninstall the following (if they exist) by double-clicking on the following entries:
SpywareBot

After we have you clean, I will give you the link to download Spybot 1.4 and Adaware SE, both legit and free spyware removal programs.

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not run it yet!

CCleaner Tutorial

*******************************************

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key. If that does not work this go to this site: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/

Please boot into Safe Mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [spywarebot] C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe -boot
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150/18ea56531160a40f9305/...ip/RdxIE601.cab

*******************************************

Next, we're going on a file hunt.
Go to My Computer and double-click C.
Go to the Tools menu and select 'Folder Options'.
On the 'View' tab select 'show hidden files and folders',
deselect (uncheck) 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)', and
deselect (uncheck) "Hide extensions for known file types.'

Don't use the windows start\search feature
Using Windows Explorer, find and delete each of the following. If you can't delete an item, right-click it and click properties. Make sure 'read-only' is unchecked.
If you still can't delete something, right-click it and rename it to a random word. Then drag the item to a different location. Try deleting it now. If you still can't, be sure to let me know.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following files/folders in bold (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\ <==folder

*******************************************

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

*******************************************

Reboot to the Normal Mode

Please run F-Secure Blacklight (blbeta.exe) again.

Post back with the BlackLight log , a new HijackThis log , and tell me how your computer is running.

Yes, bad move. Spyware Bot exploits name "Spybot Search & Destroy"; same app as AdwareAlert

You can get better malware protection from the free (Spybot 1.4 and Ad-aware SE).

Hello Cubbieblue,

Looks like you got reinfected with the same malware since your last visit.
Please do not surf the net until we have your computer clean.

RegDeleteKey HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\xrwhqjdma
RegDelValue HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run|xrwhqjdma
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma_navps.dat
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma_nav.dat
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma.dat
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma.exe
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma_m2s.xml
FileDelete %WINDIR%\xrwhqjdma.exe-*.pf

Reboot and post a new BlackLight log and HijackThis log.

Hello Cubbieblue,

First we fix some items from your log.

In Normal Mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

O16 - DPF: {02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B} (QuickTime Object) - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52/200612...ex/qtplugin.cab

Reboot your computer.

Did I do something wrong? - looks like it is the same.

Yes, you are doing something wrong.

I have removed many of these rootkits and this fix always works, so that means you are not running it properly.

This is a complex fix, so it is easy to leave out, or bypass a step.

Some common reasons why it does not work:
1) Not you running it exactly as specified in the fix.
Any deviation from the fix and it will not work.
2) Did you set the Filetype to "all files" ?
3) Did copy the part in bold into Notepad (not WordPad) and save it as aftermath.bfu?

Let's try again. Remember to do exactly what the fix tells you to do, as any varience will stop the fix.

RegDeleteKey HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\xrwhqjdma
RegDelValue HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run|xrwhqjdma
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma_navps.dat
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma_nav.dat
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma.dat
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma.exe
FileDelete %SYSDIR%\xrwhqjdma_m2s.xml
FileDelete %WINDIR%\xrwhqjdma.exe-*.pf

Reboot and post a new BlackLight log and HijackThis log. Hopefully the fix will work this time. :flowers: Third time is the charm.

I did exactly as you mentioned and since it still found the hidden files I thought I would choose to view the log. Here is what the log says in BFU.
