i need a live cd version of linux that supports usb modems.its a thompson speedtouch.any idea's?

Try PCLinuxOS
http://www.pclinuxos.com/
Download the .93a - minime
It's a 'lite' version of PCLOS and if it works out for you,you
can get 'Big Daddy' which is the full blown version.
If you are the daring type you can get the beta .94 2007 version
which may have better USB support.
