okay heres the thing ---------

i have noticed that when i do a search in IE -- say through google for deviant art, when i click the link, it redirects me else where. i have to click the link about 3-4 times to get to the actual site that i want.

now, i have run spybot, hijack this, cwshredder, ad aware, avast, along with a few others i could think of and it hasnt fixed the problem. does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this. i have used f-secure blacklight and it found a program called kdpbk.exe in c:\windows\system32. i also did everything in the Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log, Instructions for receiving help in cleaning your computer and it didnt help -- i still keep getting redirected

thanks

Welcome urbaneve,i believe we've met before on another forum yes

Download 'e Scan MWAV' from here to your desktop:
http://www.mwti.net/download/tools/mwav.exe
Disconnect from the internet, close all running programs.
Double click on the mwav icon on your desktop.
The program will start, the Licence Agreement will pop up.
Select 'I accept the agreement',then press Ok.
The program will open, leave all the settings as they are.
Now press the 'Scan & Clean' button.
The program will now start scanning your pc.
Once the scan has finished, post the results from the lower window 'Virus Log Information'.

************************************

Please download Sophos Anti-Rootkit,and save it on your desktop.
1. Double-click sarsfx.exe to extract the files and leave the default settings.
2. Open the folder C:\SOPHTEMP and double-click sargui.exe to start the program.
3. Make sure the following are checked:
- Running processes
- Windows Registry
- Local Hard Drives
4. Click the "Start Scan" button.
5. Click the "OK" button after you get the notification that the scan has finished and close the program.
6. Click on Start>Run and type, or copy and paste: %temp%\sarscan.log then press Enter.
7. This should open the log from the rootkit scan.
Post this log into your next reply.

Note:
If the scan is performed while the computer is in use, false positives may appear in the scan results.
This is caused by files or registry entries being deleted, including temporary files being deleted automatically.
It has also been reported that Trojan Hunter is detecting Sophos Anti-rootkit as Trojan.Dropper.Interlac.100
So if you have Trojan Hunter installed you will need to disable it prior to running a scan.

Reboot, post the MWAV results, the sarscan.log, and a new Hijackthis log into your next reply please.

LOL ---- yeah -- io was fustrated last night and went to several places to find help. however, i did find way more information here than other places -- thanks for the replay at the other place (shhhhh -- dont tell anyone i posted elsewhere --- :flowers:

i did get the reboot issue resolved (man there is nothing more fustrating than waiting 5 min for your darn computer to restart) LOL

now its the darn printer -- it wouldnt print so i tried doing the repair option it offered and that didnt work -- so i uninstalled in hopes to reinstall and fix the problem -- now it wont install and keeps telling me that "the PaperPort installer does not respond". i have no idea what that means or how to fix it. i have a brother 420CN (hate the d@mn thing)

still working on it --- i used a program called smitfraud fix

here are 5 things smitfraud fix came up with

huy32 detected,
pe386 detected,
lzx32 detected,
msguard detected,
kdpbk.exe detected

so i got rid of them and i am getting to reboot and we will see if that worked or not -- thanks for checking back,
printer problem resolved BTW

================================
okay -- so far everything seems to be okay -- no more redirects at this point -- we will see in a day or 2
thanks again
