My friend told me about this site which you can upload a file for it to be scanned by 15 different anti-virus programs.

The most popular ones are :
Jotti and Virustotal

THese are frequently used by the HJT technicians to find out whether a file is malicious or not.

And these antivirus programs are UPDATED as well to the latest definitions when their available?
