My Zone Alarm firewall alerted me with the following msg: java update checker needs to connect to internet. Being pretty much a neophyte at computing I'm not sure if this is a legitimate operation. I have Win XP Media Center 2005 Edition & am using Firefox as my browser. I pretty much am following all the security suggestions I have read about on this site. Am I being too paranoid?

You are never too paranoid when it comes to applications without you knowing connect to the internet. The Java update checker is an application which keeps your Java software updated and therefor is legitimate. If your PC is running ok you can leave it on
