It's Malware...

Internet Explorers homepage automatically goes to this:

//protectionband.com

And boxes by the clock saying "system alert" keep popping up.

Help please. :thumbsup:

No...it doesn't...

How long will the disc cleaning in the first option take? I want to know if I should start it now or tomorrow.

could be an hour or hours. Depends on whether you chose to compress old files and how much there is to clean.
There are several malware programs that your brief description would fit. If the Smitfraudfix works, let us know.
You should also install Super Antispyware, too. Run it in Safe Mode

If the Smitfraud fix doesn't clear it up, post a Hijack This log in appropriate forum by following the directions in the link below.
