Hi

I am running IE 7 and seem to encounter several error messages about IE having to close. Does anyone know what this is about, and ways to fix it?

Also, I am trying to find the correct forum in which to post a problem about "Click here to activate and use" when trying to play a media file in explorer.

Thanks
Nat

Please do the following : Go to START RUN and type eventvwr and post the messages with red crosses. There could a lot of issues causing that, so posting the error messages will help us identify the problem.

Please post that in the Audio and Video forum eventhough that also could be browser related. Think this error coincide with the error messages you get while using IE7

Hi I just want to stick my 2 cents here...
Are you using full IE7 no a beta version.updating to the full may clear that up.
That said... i have seen this occur due to poor add ons,for whatever reason.
You can try from the top right of the address bsr slect TOOLS
scroll down to" manage add ons"
Select "enable/disable"
In the popup box you should be at "currently installed add ons"
In the left pane click on and disable them one at a time to see which may be causing the problem. start with anything un familiar first.
You can find them later by clicking the arrow by "currently installed add ons" and choosing "Previously installed add ons " from the drop down...
How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook

HI Fozzie

I have accesed event viewer and filtered the errors - there are many of them so thought it would be better if I could send as an attachment. How do I do this? I will send the applications and systems errors.

Uncheck the "enable third party extension" in the advanced tab of the Internet Options.

First, you'll be looking for errors in each of those logs. Then, look for patterns that relate to the errors (for example, today I found a problem with WordPerfect errors in a customer's computer - and each one was preceded by a Norton LiveUpdate. This was enough to cause me to suspect the Norton rather than the WordPerfect).

Finally, right click on the errors and select "Properties" - this may reveal more patterns (such as fault bucket errors following a particular error). Lastly, the text of the properties box may contain information that's needed.

If they're essentially the same, just post the most recent and let us ask you if we need more info.

- John  (my website: http://www.carrona.org/ )
**If you need a more detailed explanation, please ask for it. I have the Knack. **  If I haven't replied in 48 hours, please send me a message.

My eye problems have recently increased and I'm having difficult reading posts. (23 Nov 2017)
FYI - I am completely blind in the right eye and ~30% blind in the left eye.

If the eye problems get worse suddenly, I may not be able to respond.
If that's the case and help is needed, please PM a staff member for assistance.

:inlove:

Hi there John - Yup it's me again !! You always seem to be on hand to help everybody out. It;s great and much appreciated. :flowers:

I have simply copied the error logs and selected what I think may be useful. (knowing me, none of of the below is any use at all!!) As you no doubt know, the below is from the Applications. Error logs from Systems is to follow in next post. It is obvious to me that I have some kind of virus called DriveCleaner which I must get rid of. Is this a bad one??? The below logs are from earliest to latest.

As always, many thanks... :trumpet:

this is prob. off topic but the easiest way to fix the problem is to switch to firefox, haha because I have had the same problems and instead of fixing it I switched to firefox and haven't had any problems yet

There's several sets of errors that are of concern here. First is, obviously the Internet Explorer errors. But there's also a whole pile of errors with your Norton/Symantec antivirus, your CD/DVD drive, and the TCP/IP service (which affects your internet connection).

It's a little late now and my eyes are hurting too much to search out your previous posts - could you give us a recap of your previous problems? TIA!

Hi John

Thanks for your reply. Since my previous major problems, I have had my system checked and updated to IE7, so technically, there are no previous issues. Give me some idea as so what exactly you need from Event Manager or whatever else, and I'll do my best to provide it. Or is there some other program that I should download and run in order to provide the critical info??

Thanks

Hi again Nat! I'm trying to figure out if there's an association between your previous problems and this one.

If it is, then I'd suggest a repair install of XP, followed by updating of your drivers and programs (particularly those that are giving problems. I'd also suggest messing with your networking settings to see if that's an issue or not.

Hi :flowers:

When you say a repair install of XP, I take it that I must totally uninstall XP, and then reload it all..?? As for updating drivers and programs, I'll search this forum for advice or tips on the best method for doing this.

Messing with network settings....?? I think not! Remember how badly I messed up my system before by fiddling too much??? I'll only do this as a last resort, and under supervision!!

Any other suggestions from anyone else would be appreciated as always.

Thanks again John
