Hello,

This is my first post, and I would like to thank you for having this forum where people can ask questions. I'm hoping that someone can help me as I have never had this particular problem before. I'm not a computer pro by any stretch of the imagination, but I have never had this problem in removing a program before.

I am wanting to remove Avast! antivirus from Windows XP and either do a fresh install (I've had problems with it) or install another antivirus.

The problem is, when I bring it up from the Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and click on "Change/Remove" - nothing happens. I'm using Windows XP if that helps.

It simply doesn't respond. Can someone help me figure out why? I would appreciate any help with this that any of you could give.

Thank You,
Kleigh

Down in the right hand side of the task bar, you will see a small icon which belongs to Avast. Right click it and close avst first. Go straight back to the Control panel and you should be able to uninstall. Otherwise you will, I think, also find an uninstall option in you start menu under Avast.

Thank you so much for the fast reply. I've actually been having quite a few anonymolous things occur with my computer and have been trying to troubleshoot as much as I can on my own.

I did what you suggested last night and it still didn't work, but somehow mysteriously after I posted the question on this forum, the change/remove icon in the control panel for avast! responded and I was able to remove it. Very strange, as it just simply would not respond. It is as far as I know successfully removed now.

Thank you again for your help.
