I never had this problem before, but now my computer won't connect to the Internet after it's been sleeping for a while. I DO have a couple of ethernet ports, could that be affecting my connectivity? I also have a wireless network set up, but I had that running before this happened for months.

It's fine after I restart the computer, but it's annoying.

Are you using a USB broadband mode? If so you may need to get a hard wired modem. When PC goes to sleep it turning of the power to the modem as it is the supplier. On wake up it's not booting the proper sequnce, hence not connecting again.
You can try updating drivers on modem.
You can disable sleep mode. Control Panel, Power Options and set the System standby and System hibernate options to Never.
