Vista is not needed period. You can still use windows 95 if you wanted to.
It should drop in price. How soon is anyones guess. Maybe when they see they are not selling as many copies as they thought they would(I think they already figured that out).

Do your research and ask what do I need it for? You can even make xp look like vista for free. Its been all over the internet since vista was a beta.

If you are unsure, then wait until the release of the first service pack!

Why would you even buy Vista? There are plenty program that won't work with vista. Vista is a resource hog you will want to upgrade your pc. Stick with Windows xp, at least wait 2 years to workout the bugs!

Nobody "needs" an OS a few weeks after release. if you get it, it's because you want it for a reason. If you have no specific reason to want it currently, you shouldn't get it.

Price drop? I have no idea. It's a possibility, but I'm not gonna count on it.

Really, though, it's not worth getting yet. Wait for better software compatibility, and more importantly, DirectX 10.

Windows Vienna due in 2009

With Vista just out the door, Microsoft is now drawing up plans to deliver its follow-up client operating system by the end of 2009, according to the executive in charge of building the product's core components...Last year, Microsoft said that the code name for this Vista follow-up is Vienna....

Seems to me that folks may just wait for the new OS instead of going to Vista.
