hello, I'm here mainly as I have some serious spyware problem - and am hoping that, with help - can resolve this.... I'm sure I will also be able to pick up a lot of interesting and useful information and tips, when i troll the different topics and forums.

right on man, welcome and all that good stuff.
your best bet for that spyware is grab yourself a copy of adaware, install and run it, then do the hijackthis thing. check out the various subforums, there is all sorts of info on this.

There are several excellent, and free, anti-spyware applications that you can use to clean your hard drive. Having at least two will allow one to find the ones the other misses (each looks for a slightly different set, depending on how spyware is defined).

I can recommend:
Ad-Aware SE
Spybot Search and Destroy
AVG Anti-spyware
