You can do it successfully but it's a risk - so backup before trying it.
Use a program like Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director. In my experience, only do one thing at a time. If you do more than 1 at a time, the likelyhood of corruption increases.
So, first, resize your OS partition down the the size that you need - then apply the change and then reboot.
Then create the new partitions in the newly freed space - then apply and reboot.
Then format the partitions and you're done!
