[size=4] Hello ! I use Nero and WMP . Have no trouble with Nero but WMP does not recognise burner despite refresh troubleshoot check etc . Has the computer aligned itself solely to Nero ? - and if so how can I change things?
Also we used to have a Windows pop up when putting a cd in the D drive which asked what we wanted to do play burn copy with this that or the other . It's been gone for a while - how do you reactivate it ?
Cheers Dave

This is going to take some time :

1)
Rename the folder "Ahead" in folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\
into "Ahead_2".
When reinstalling Nero, the folder "Ahead" will be created again.
The Nero's DirectShow filters and Codecs will also be installed and registered again.
As soon as the folder "Ahead" is once again created in the directory
C:\ Program Files\Common files\
the directory "Ahead_2" can be erased.

2)
Erase the contents of the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ahead\NeroDigital
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ahead\NeroRecode
C:\Documents and Settings \"USERNAME"\Application Data\Ahead\NeroVision\NVFACache

3)
Make sure that you have your Nero 7 serial number ready.
The serial number is structured as follows:
1Cxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.
It can be found on a sticker on the jewel case.
If Nero is installed on your computer the serial number can be found as follows:
a)
Open Nero StartSmart and go into Nero ProductCenter by clicking on the "Nero" logo in the top left corner.
Click on the index box "Serial Numbers" to view the serial number.
Alternatively, you can find the serial number in the Registry:
Open the "Registry" by
- clicking on Start in Windows
- clicking on Run
- typing in "regedit" into the field "Open" and verifying with "OK"
The serial number is found in the following directory:
HHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ahead\Installation\Families\Nero 7\Info
- find the entry serial7
- double-click on serial7
- the serial number can be found here

4)
The General CleanTool should be used before reinstalling Nero to completely remove all Nero entries from your computer.
The General CleanTool can only be implemented if you are logged in as Administrator.
Warning: all Nero plug-ins will be removed as well!
Download the General-Cleantool from
ftp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/General-CleanTool_7.zip
and extract it on the hard drive by using WinZIP or WinRAR.
Start the General-Cleantool by double-clicking on the .exe file.
Choose
> Clean All
> Clean
> Deinstallation of all Nero products.
Restart the PC.
All Nero entries in the Registry are erased.

5) Download the latest drivers for your faulty drive and install them.

6) Go to MY COMPUTER RIGHTCLICK PROPPERTIES Hardware select the drive and fault press delete
now reboot. After rebooting the wizzard hardware will show up and will re-install the drive again

Download install and update Ccleaner
After installing and updating go to options - advanced and tick prompt for registry back ups
Now Start up in safe mode
Do two runs

1) Click on problems and tick all. Click on analyse. At the end you will be prompted for storing a backup.
This will be stored, as a default, in My documents.
2) Click on cleaner click on analyse and accept all files to be removed.

Reboot again.

7)
Afterwards, reinstall Nero by downloading the current Nero version from our website:
http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-demo.php
Enter your serial number during the installation process.

The SONIC DLA appears to be giving conflicts so yes apart from the cleaning tool you can do the same. Is it a paid version of Sonic? In that case please keep your product registration handy

Yeah I've got the same program preinstalled on this dell, really, you don't need it at all. I would just uninstall it and use freeware burning programs instead. As long as you clean up everything from recordnow, your burning should be back to normal.

You can use this procedure except for the cleaning tool
