Hello happydea and Welcome to BleepingComputer,

No Firewall Onboard

Also I do not see a firewall application installed. Perhaps you have a hardware firewall but a combination of both a software firewall and a hardware firewall is better. Just be sure there are no conflicts. Please do not rely solely on the Windows XP firewall. Using a software firewall other than the XP firewall will allow you to give/deny access for applications that want to go online. Select one of these, or another of your choice:Please test your firewall and make sure it is working properly.
Test Firewall

======
Now run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information from Kapersky in your next post.

======
Combofix
  • Download this file - combofix.exe
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Please post the log from Kapersky, the ComboFix log and a new hijackthis log.

I have a WinTV-PVR attached to my computer and what you are asking about are television shows that are to be recorded.

grabs all of the processor speed and keeps maling inquiries of the floppy disk drive.

I have not found the source of your problem. Could you elaborate more about what is happening please?

It appears that something is running in the background that uses up all the processor speed and stops any running program. I also see the floppy drive light up and click, like it is searching for something. It is rare that I ever choose to run more than 1 program at a time. Multi-tasking may have its uses but I can confuse things up well enough on my own.

You may have done this already but if so, please do it again so I can see the results.

Please register (it's free, don't worry) with PCPitStop and run the full tests here.
When the tests are complete, a results page will pop up. Click "Share these results with TechExpress" on the left-hand side. Then copy the URL provided and post (reply) with it here for me.

Well actually I was hoping to be able to view the results with a link. Did PCPitstop show any problems?

I'm sorry, I thought that was the link. No, PC Pitstop did not find any problems. All catagories had a checkered flag.
Thanks for all your help so far.
