Microsoft have just finished distributing an internal Beta 1 escrow build to internal beta testers. "Atlanta" is the code-name for Microsoft's rehashed GIANT Software Anti-Spyware. In a memo internally, the company looks clear to distribute the software this coming Thursday calling it "new, it's fresh, and it's all good".

Encouraging employees to install the Beta is one of the many ways Microsoft tests Beta products internally. It's not clear whether the release this Thursday will be a public beta or a private external beta.

I jsut wish MS would issue security patches for all the outstanding vulnerabilities that have proofs of concepts published, rather than creating a "quickie" application for spyware. Condisering the source, I would not trust any security application from it.
Cheers,
John

They didn't, they bought an existing company.

You can bet, though, if it is a BETA version, they put their own curious stamp on it.

REDMOND, Wash. -- Dec. 16, 2004 -- Microsoft Corp. today announced that it has acquired GIANT Company Software Inc., a provider of top-rated anti-spyware and Internet security products.

Microsoft plans to make available to Windows customers a beta version of a spyware protection, detection and removal tool, based on the GIANT AntiSpyware product, within one month.

Full article is here.

It is a Beta to MS as I imagine it will be signifigantly upgraded, and will no doubt be incorporated into Longhorn.
