Since I reinstalled XP I have two small problems.
1. On bootup the Recycle Bin appears in the lower right hand corner of the screen as it is suppose too then when the programs are loading it moves to the upper left hand corner. Usually the program that is loading is EssentialPIM.
How do I get it to stay in the lower right hand corner?

2. On the Task Bar I right click and select Desktop which works fine but I have do it every time it boots up. It use to stay that way but not now? How do I get it to stay?

Alta, here's an articel from Microsoft on positioning the Recycle Bin http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283359

Also, go to desktop, right click, and choose Arrange Icons By. Uncheck Autoarrange, but keep snap to grid. Position the recycle in where you want, and see if it stays there the next time you boot.

Did all of this and nothing changed. The artical says if you upgrade to XP the icon won't be in the lower right hand corner. This was a reinstall not an upgrade but I think it is confusing the two.

He is talking about Show Desktop in the Quick Launch which minimizes any open windows to show the desktop. What I am talking about is right clicking the Taskbar and getting a context menu, choosing Toolbars and then choosing Desktop which gives you a list of what is on the Desktop

Sounds like your XP is having problems with holding settings, particularly on the desktop.

Do the other options work OK? For example, can you change your wallpaper and change things on/about the screensaver? Have you removed any viruses or malware recently?

Try this free scan to clean your registry. While it's running it'll also double check your current protection to see if there's any malware that was missed. http://safety.live.com/

John,
I ran the scan and it did not find anything significant. I use Webshots for my wallpaper and screen saver and it seems to work fine. The only problems I have are the two I mentioned. I have never had a bad virus or other problem, just tracking cookies.

Try this for the taskbar: Once you've got it set up the way you want it, in the taskbar configuration dialog check only "Lock the taskbar," "Keep the taskbar on top," "Show Quick Launch," and "Show the clock." Log off. Log on. Not a reboot. Taskbar should behave better. If not, you might try the Taskbar Repair Tool: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_t.htm
