I have a dell inspiron 510m with windows XP SP2. I find that sometimes the battery icon does not appear on the menu bar in the right hand corner. When this happens I cannot figure out how much battery power I have and I have to go into the control panel to find out.

Some software I use that I can think of (am in work at the moment)
Zone alarm
AVG virus software
Microsoft word, excel outlook.

Is this a simple or common problem?

I don't have an answer for you but I have a 600m and even when i first got it I had that problem too, so it's not like a virus or spyware or any problem like that.
