Blank Device Manager Page

when I open device manager.there are no icons showing hardware istalled! the page is empty/blank, also a blank page when I open network connections! no internet connections are show, I can still log on to the net via internet explorer no problem, the missing icons are not causind a problem,its just annoying ,and i cant check my ip settings as there are no icons..can anyone help!
