Now almost any program I try to run I'll get the message that I must lower/raise my security settings.
But that is impossible because box is completely blank. Sometimes I get the message must enable java settings before something will open and once again only see only the BLANK box. All the trusted sites and restricted sites have been removed. Also noticed Windows firewall was off so went to turn on and told due to an internet problem windows could not display firewall setting. Been slow but now incredibly slow. Very few web pages will open, receive message "Network Browser could not open." I have a digital media player which I transfer music to and never have had problems. Now transfers only empty folders. All this in last few days.

Not sure what info needed exactly so possible rambling below:

Various tidbits:
Am Administrator, actually only user.
Oh and recently went to IE7. (which hasn't been pleasant in itself)
I delete temp files, cookies browser tracks, clear recycle bin, etc very often.
I run and have ran Spybot S&D,
CWShredder
CleanUp!
CCLEANER
Avast Free
AVG Anti-spyware
They found nothing.
Also ran above in safe mode. And Scandsk/chkdsk

Went to "Freeware replacement for Common Commercial Apps" from your site and tried to run Bitdefender, a(squared)free, aumha.0rg, Castle Cops, Panda, PCPitstop, all which told me security setting must be set to medium.
I thought maybe the trojan about:blank but homepage has not changed.
Any help appreciated. I don't know much but the little I do know makes me think hijackThis log is NOT GOOD.

Hello mgarren and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. The good new is that I do not see any signs of viruses or malware in the log.

It does appear that the IE zones are set improperly so let's see if we can fix that without too much trouble.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into the new document. Save it to your desktop as regfix.reg :

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\ProtocolDefaults]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\ProtocolDefaults]
@=""
"http"=dword:00000003
"https"=dword:00000003
"ftp"=dword:00000003
"file"=dword:00000003
"@ivt"=dword:00000001
"shell"=dword:00000000

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\ProtocolDefaults]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\ProtocolDefaults]
@=""
"http"=dword:00000003
"https"=dword:00000003
"ftp"=dword:00000003
"file"=dword:00000003
"@ivt"=dword:00000001

Locate regfix.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer Yes and wait for a message to appear similar to Merged Successfully.

Restart your computer and see if you are still getting the blank pages for the various settings boxes.

Post back here with a new HijackThis log and let me know what is happening now.

Cheers.
