Just a few days ago, I found out that my little sister downloaded some infected file from the internet, onto our computer. She said she typed in 'keygen' into google and clicked on the first link, and then downloaded a file from that website. After yelling and giving her a long lecture, Norton started spazzing and saying I was infected with Trojan.Adclicker. I then ran my computer in safe mode and did a scan, Norton picked up the trojans, quarrantined it and I then I deleted it. I then downloaded Prevx1, TrojanRemover(?), did an online trojan scan just to make sure again.

Then, 2 days later, Norton poped up saying I was infected with Infostealer, which really made me paranoid. But it said it deleted the file immediately. I downloaded all those programs above, did a norton scan to make sure.

Now, I'm just wondering if there was any other way to make sure my computer is 100% clean, and that the infostealer virus or the trojans aren't hiding from the scans.

Thanks.

DownLoad http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip or
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/killbox.exe

Restart your computer into safe mode now. (Tapping F8 at the first black screen) Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ghhkj.ini2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ghhkj.bak1

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

START – RUN – type in %temp% - OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp

Not all temp files will delete and that is normal
Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new hijack log from normal NOT safe mode

Please give feedback on what worked/didn’t work and the current status of your system

? Do I delete them using the Killbox program?

I managed to delete "C:\WINDOWS\system32\ghhkj.ini2" with the Killbox program, but it said "C:\WINDOWS\system32\ghhkj.bak1" didn't exist.

I was able to delete everything in the temp folders.

with killbox but it said the files cannot be deleted. I tried it in safe mode too, and it still couldn't be deleted. NONE of them could be deleted. Any other suggestions on how to delete them?

Well, things are going alright, I haven't gotten any warnings from Norton about an infected file or anything.

My restore points were already off, do you want me to turn them on?

Okay, I turned them on.

I downloaded killbox using the links you provided. I managed to remove them using Explorer, except one file as I couldn't find it.

There are more files similar to the ones you told me to remove, like their address is a whole bunch of numbers and letters. Do you want me to remove them as well?

By the way, could you please tell me what I was infected with? I know I had trojan.adclicker & infostealer, but was there anything else? And thanks for your help by the way =)

Hi gowby,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but MFDnSC is now unavailable so I will be helping you conclude this thread.

Your main infection was Vundo--looks like Norton got rid of Adclicker. There were others and that is common that this stuff comes in bunches.

Is the system still running OK? You may be clean, but you didn't post a log from VundoFix as requested and I'm not sure if you ran it. Just to double-check on that and clean up possible leftovers, please do the following:

Delete VundoFix that you have and redownload as it has been updated.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Also one more line to fix with HijackThis:

O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} -

Run ComboFix once more and then I would like to see these logs:

VindoFix
HijackThis
ComboFix

I also see you have five user accounts on the PC. Are the other users experiencing problems? There are settings specific to each account, mostly for Internet Explorer, that HijackThis can only "see" when run while logged into each account. I can check over logs from the other accounts when we see where we are at with yours.

Those other randomly named folders you asked about you may be able to delete, but be careful with them. Hover your mouse over them or right click and choose properties. If the date on them are all fairly recent and correspond to when you were getting symptoms, you can delete them, but leave them in the Recycle Bin for a while. Only do this for files on your C:\ drive, not any other folders.

The thing about people

is they change

when they walk away.--Mipso
