I was trying to make Microsoft word work because we were having problems with it, it would try to install it everytime and say that it couldn't find it, and then tell us to insert the cd's which we don't have. Thinking i had the right cd i put in Windows NT 4.0, then when i realized it i cancelled the installation. Everything on the computer worked fine after that, well word still didn't open up right, but anyway it was alright until my boss shut down the computer. When he turned it back on, it just loads real fast and then says ERROR : STATUS .00000001 or something, and Says searching hardware or something, and then it says NTDETECT failed ERROR STATUS .0000001 or whatever. I tried to just go ahead and install NT but it says the file is too big, and my boss needs the information on the computer so i don't want to reformatt it. We don;t have the disk for Windows 2000 professional, but that is what i want to restore. Can anyone out there help me?? THANK YOU.

Have you tried to load up from the cd, and upgrade it back to windows 2000? Make sure that in your BIOS the first boot device is your CD-Rom.

Copy NtDetect from the CD to the root of your boot HD.

Ok so you can boot up the PC with the boot disk? Well you're gonna have to back everything up onto a CD or memory stick, if you have another pc you could stick in the hard drive from the other machine and back up all the data you can.
