Boot into Safe Mode (keep tapping F8 at startup). Run Scandisk, Disk Cleanup then defrag.

 Hiya,

Try booting your machine in Safe Mode. Then run scandisk and defragment. Always use to work fine for me when I ran Windows 98SE.

Regards,
Tony.

Just a little tip it may have been mentioned before, I'm new to this forum. Download and use Windows ME Defrag and put Defrag.exe in your Windows folder, it runs quicker than Win98 defrag.
