Hi - would greatly appreciate any help in finding a lost icon that will allow me to switch from Classic View back to Category View in WinXP control panel. Thank you.

There should be a button called "Switch to Category View" on the left side of the Control Panel window. This is what it looks like...

If you can't see it, then the side panel it's in is closed. Click the arrow on the top right corner to see the "Switch to Category View" button again.

Peter, thanks, but I cannot see any arrow to click to make the side panel visible. Yes, that would be great if I can make the side panel appear again. In the upper right corner of the Control Panel window, all I have are the minimize, maximize, and close windows buttons. No arrows. Other suggestions?

Try looking on the Left hand side of the Control Panel window.
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.

TMack, thanks, but there are no arrows. Left or right. The only thing I can do is to resize the control panel window. Somehow, the side panel is gone. I need to get it back to view information in another task I'm doing. Perhaps some default settings I'm not aware of?

Hello,

If you go to control pannel, and click on folder options make sure it says to show common tasks in folders, apply and see if the side panel comes back

Hope this helps
