Thanks in advance for anyone who helps. I have Norton Internet Security. A few days ago, Norton AntiVirus detected the Trojan.Vundo virus. I've tried running virus scans with Norton and Trend Micro PC-illin. Used Ad-Aware SE. I've followed the recommended actions. Nothing has worked so far. I read the second pinned topic in this sub-forum and ran Ad-Aware SE, then Spybot, Housecall Anti Virus, McAfee VERT Stinger. Now I'm at HijackThis. I've also ran VundoFix and VirtumundoBegone as well. So here is my HijackThis log:

Hi scottiemac, Welcome to Bleeping Computer !!

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender
After all of the fixes are complete, it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again

I need you to download some programs to aide in our fix :Do Not Run Them Yet

Download VundoFix.exe© by Atribune to your desktop.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Run VundoFix
Double-click VundoFix.exe
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
When it finishes scanning, Click the Remove Vundo button
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to "remove the files", click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK
The .txt file will be in C:\Vundofix.txt

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot

Post a fresh HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file here

If I can't find it, it doesn't exist !!

Alright Linkmaster, I downloaded and ran those two programs. Just one quick question before I post both logs. Is it common to have the Norton Virus Alert screen up all the time? It'll usually say the file was automatically deleted or could not be repaired/accessed.
Reason for edit: Fixed the vundofix.txt file. I didn't copy it all last time.

Is it common to have the Norton Virus Alert screen up all the time? It'll usually say the file was automatically deleted or could not be repaired/accessed

No it is not normal ! I think Norton has a problem.
Maybe the fact that you have Norton AND Trend micro both running !!
Does Trend Micro also have an AV ??
This is very dangerous, as multiple AntiVirus Programs can interfere with one another and actually allow MORE viruses to get through.
I strongly recommend you do 1 of the following :

Enable only 1 AntiVirus to run RealTime Scanning, leave the other disabled

Uninstall all but 1 of the AntiVirus programs (Start, ControlPanel, Add/Remove Programs)

We are almost there :
Download and Install AVG Anti-Spyware© by Grisoft

Launch AVG Anti-Spyware, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update AVG Anti-Spyware to the latest definition files.
On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link
Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Close AVG Anti-Spyware

Reboot to Safe mode
Restart your computer and begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard just before Windows starts to load
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear.
Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Firefox :
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Run AVG Anti-Spyware
Click on Scanner at top
Click on Settings
Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine
Under Reports, Select Automatically generate report after every scan
Un-Select Only if threats were found
Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan
AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time
Once the scan is complete do the following :
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
Next select the Reports icon at the top.
Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
Close AVG Anti-Spyware

Reboot to Normal Mode

Run Kaspersky WebScanner
Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner
NOTE For Internet Explorer 7 Users : If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%
You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading t he latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)

Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases

Click OK

Now under select a target to scan:
Select My Computer

Then the program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.

Reboot

Run HijackThis
Scan and when it finishes, put a check mark only next to these following items : (if present)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7DA39570-5FD2-4f18-94B4-20730CB3F727} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tnbmtbaa.dll (file missing)

O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://download.games.yahoo.com/games/web_...aploader_v6.cab

Close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open
Click Fix Checked
Close HijackThis

Post a fresh HijackThis Log, the AVG Anti-Spyware Log, and the Kaspersky Virus Scan Log here
(You may need to use several replies as the logs may be cut off)

Thank You !!

I'm sorry but I'm having problems posting the Kaspersky log up. I keep trying to copy and paste sections of it. It keeps saying my post is too long even though I haven't passed the 102,400 character mark. Is there another way of posting the text or maybe even sending the file?

I'm sorry Linkmaster but I do not see an option to add an attachment.

So far my computer seems to be running fine. The computer ran a scheduled virus scan and it showed that there was no viruses. Although before I restarted last time, there was a Norton Virus Alert but it said it was deleted. I clicked OK and have not seen anything else like that.

I appreciate all your help! Thank you!

**Turn ON System Restore**

How is your system running now ??

Here are a few recommendations for protecting your system and reducing your risk of infection again !!

** Windows Update **
It is very important to keep your system up to date with the latest Critical Updates to avoid unnecessary security risks
Visit Microsoft's Windows Update page at the very least monthly to check for updates !!

** Make Your Internet Explorer More Secure **
This can be done by following these simple instructions :
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
Change the Allow paste operations via script to Disable
When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button
If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

** Real Time Prevention **
SpywareBlaster© by Javacool Software :
*Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests
*Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
*Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
*Consumes no system resources

*Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done
*Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page
IESpyad© by EHowes : This will add several hundred Restricted Sites to the Restricted Site Zone in IE.

** File Cleaners (temp, prefetch, cookie, etc) **
2000/XP Only
ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune
All Windows
CCleaner© by CCleaner.com

** Spyware Scanners **
Some FREE Spyware Scanners for Home use, that will detect and remove trojans, dialers, malware, browser hijackers, tracking components and other forms of Spyware :
SUPERAntiSpyware Home© by SUPERAntiSpyware.com
Ad-aware SE© by Lavasoft
Spybot S&D© by Safer-Networking

** Good Free Antivirus Programs **
AVG© by Grisoft
AntiVir© by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH
Avast© by ALWIL Software
NOTE:Remember always have just 1 antivirus program running at a time. Having more than one running causes a conflict between the programs !! You can use one as a backup to run manually

** Firewalls **
If you have an "always on" internet connection, such as DSL or Cable, I recommend a Firewall.
A firewall will make your pc invisible to the outside world and will filter the outgoing and incoming traffic on your pc.
For a good idea of how vulnerable your system(s) are go to GRC
Scroll down to "Shields Up" Click on "Proceed" Then click on "Common Ports"to scan your ports.
Here are 3 good free Personal Firewalls :
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall© by Sunbelt
Jetico Personal Firewall© by Jetico, Inc.
Comodo Personal Firewall© by Comodo Group (XP & 2000 only)

** Update Java **
Go to Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs
Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... ) and select Remove
Then Download and install the newest version :
JAVA SOFTWARE MANUAL DOWNLOAD

Always keep your Antivirus & Spyware Removal Tools current with the latest definitions and updates !!

Following these recommendations will help reduce your risk of future infections !!

Do you have any questions??

Since I last posted, the computer had been running fine. Friday night I was running AVG Anti-Spyware before I went to bed. I went to sleep and woke up in the morning and I believe the hard drive is bad now. I had to push the power button to turn it off. Pushed it again and it made some noises and wouldn't start up.

I was just wondering if the Trojan.vundo virus maybe had something to do with it.

I don't think so !

It sounds like Hardware to me ! Especially if the HardDrive is making noise !

Try this :

Open My Computer
Right Click on Local Drive C:\ (your root drive)
Select Properties
Click on the Tools tab at the top
Click on Check Now and select BOTH boxes
Click on Strat It will ask if you want to run at next bottup select yes
Do this for each drive you have minus your CD rom
Reboot
Let it check the drive If it finds bad sectors it may fix them. I would suggest posting in the Hardware section
