Hi,
You guys have helped me out in the past so here is another. I ran my Hijack this program on my computer and found several (5) System32/svchost.exe in my running processes area at the beginning.
Your site has said that this was an undesireable program. I ran virus scan (Norton) but to no avail it does not find it. Is there a way to remove them via the registry? Here is the HT Log

svchost.exe is a legitimate process also (since it's running in the System32 subdirectory.

svchost.exe is sortof like a platform so that some programs can run as services on your system. It does this by running the programs inside of the svchost.exe process.

If you have XPPro, you can see these "sub" processes by typing "tasklist /svc" (without the quotes) and pressing Enter.

With XPHome or Media Center Edition you can download this free program ( http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...ssExplorer.mspx ) Then just hover your mouse over each svchost.exe and it'll display the items running under the svchost.exe process.

On my system I've got 7 running - and they contain between 1 and 25 processes that run under them.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

- John  (my website: http://www.carrona.org/ )**If you need a more detailed explanation, please ask for it. I have the Knack. **  If I haven't replied in 48 hours, please send me a message. My eye problems have recently increased and I'm having difficult reading posts. (23 Nov 2017)FYI - I am completely blind in the right eye and ~30% blind in the left eye.<p>If the eye problems get worse suddenly, I may not be able to respond. If that's the case and help is needed, please PM a staff member for assistance.

hello,

svchost handles .dll files, it is built into windows. if you want to see what files are in each svchost, there is a program called process explorer that will help

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...ssExplorer.mspx
Regards,

Alan.

Thanks very much. I downloaded that program and saw all the programs that it was running. They all seem legit. Thanks again!
